Boasting a unique natural geographical environment and a rich diversity of species, Wuyi Mountain National Park is home to a plethora of rare, endangered, and endemic species, as well as ancient relict species. The pristine and intact subtropical mountain forest ecosystem, combined with a profound historical and cultural heritage, constitutes the park's unique natural and cultural resources. These resources, deeply ingrained and ancient, pulse with the vitality of life. The challenge we currently face is determining how to rejuvenate this ancient and profound ecology and culture of Wuyi, under the influence of both its natural conditions and cultural heritage.
After the competition was published, the office of the Leading Group of the Protection and Development Belt of National Park in Nanping City received a total of 3,400 design units, and more than 300 domestic and foreign designers gathered to conduct on-site survey and answer questions and experience the special natural and cultural resources of Wuyi Mountain. Gain insight into the characteristics and design requirements of the environment.
After more than 2 months of conceptual design and production, the organizer received a total of 400+ design results. The evaluation will take the form of online preliminary evaluation and offline final evaluation. The preliminary evaluation committee composed of 50 pioneering architectural designers, planning designers, landscape designers and senior media professionals believes that the design proposals are focused and exciting. From the originality, innovation, brand and communication of the program, it shows the understanding of the natural, human and ecological unique resources of each node of scenic path, and provides wonderful design concepts and creative ideas.
"How to respond to the site in a creative way, combining natural and historical elements and using contemporary design language is an important issue for our scenic byway design." On October 18-19, 2023, International Creative Design Competition of Wuyi Mountain National Park No. 1 Scenic Byway was held in Wuyishan City. The scheme review committee is composed of 7 well-known experts in the industry and 2 representatives of the owner. Li Xiaojiang was selected as the review team leader by the members of the review committee.
This design competition proposes creative and comprehensive solutions from the aspects of core design concept and goal vision, development strategy and functional planning, traffic organization, environmental improvement design, architectural concept design, and later implementation suggestions. The main design content of the International Design Creative Competition includes the planning consultation and urban design concept of 8 parts: Yiliping Village and Tongmu Area of the“Wild Monkey Valley”, the Southern Gateway of Huangkeng National Park, , Sancai Peak Are,Tourism Development Plan for Changjian Village, Tourism Development Plan and Key Node Conceptual Design for Wufu Town, and Conceptual Design for Aotou Village, She Ethnic Group Cultural Village (Liqian Village) and Conceptual Urban Design for Xingtian Wellness Town. The unique mountain terrain and subtropical climate give birth to pleasant landscape and environment, natural oxygen bar formed by natural vegetation and animal habitat, neo-Confucianism of sages' "knowledge of things and integration of knowledge and action", and ancient village history and the B&B culture accumulated in ethnic minority settlements, each point on the belt has unique natural advantages or cultural attributes.
This competition signifies a new phase in the design evolution of the Wuyi Mountain National Park No. 1 Scenic Byway. Going forward, the competition's organizing committee will collaborate with the winners to jointly expedite the construction. The goal is to create a world-class scenic byway that harmoniously integrates environmental conservation, cultural richness, and scientific innovation, thereby enhancing the sightseeing experience for tourists and contributing to the protection of the natural environment. All will be anticipating and observing the transformation as we usher in the exciting new future of Wuyi Mountain.
